Obituary for
Ralph Albert Orlando
It is with great sadness that his family announces the peaceful passing of Ralph Orlando at the age of 99. Ralph will be reunited with his mother Barbara, father Joseph, brother Ernie and sister Anne (DeLuca). Ralph is survived by Inez (nee Favretto), his devoted and loving wife of 64 years, and his two sons John (Wendy) of Boulder Colorado, and Jim (Lynn) of Oakville Ontario. Ralph was especially proud of his grandchildren - his “three M’s” - Mackenzie, Marcus and Mary. He is also survived by his two sisters, Lena of Barrie and Helen (Benincasa) of St. Catherines, and numerous nephews and nieces.
Ralph was born and raised in Timmins. He was particularly well known for his skills as a hockey player. The “Timmins Torpedo” played Junior and Senior hockey in Timmins, Guelph, North Bay and Simcoe, and professional hockey in San Francisco. During this period, Ralph also proudly served in the Canadian Army for several years during WWII.
After finishing his hockey career, Ralph returned to Timmins, met the love of his life, got married and raised a family. He worked at the Kidd Creek mine, and he and Inez enjoyed frequent gatherings with both extended family and lifelong friends in the community. Ralph gave back to hockey by spending countless hours at the rinks coaching various teams including those from Moneta Recreation Club where he was a founding member.
In retirement, Ralph tended to his western movie and hockey card collections, was a member of the Dante club, and remained active with winter skating and summer golf. He particularly enjoyed visits from his grandchildren, spending hours playing card and board games with them (and usually winning) and sharing an ice cream. He and Inez maintained their home together during all but his final few months.
Though soft-spoken, Ralph was a pillar of strength and reliability, a champion of fair play and a caring friend to all who knew him. We miss him dearly.
A private family service will be held at Sacred Heart Church on Friday June 4, 2021. A scheduled visitation will be held on Thursday, June 3, 2021.
