Obituary for George O'Connor

George O'Connor
Born on August 27th 1924 in Bonfield Ontario, George passed away at the Timmins District Hospital on Sunday May 5th at the age of 94. He was predeceased by his wife Rita O’Connor (Caron) in 2011, his parents Courtney O’Connor and Angélina Audet, brothers Redmond, Gordon and Edward.
He is survived by his only son Robert, which he loved dearly, and daughter-in-law Renelle (Mineault). He cherished his grand-daughters, Mélissa (Alain), Vanessa (Peter) and Jenna (Eric) and his great-grand-children, Maya and Félix Gagnon, Sophie Renelle Daam. He will be missed by his nephews, Michael O’Connor (Sudbury), Ed Christianson (Sudbury), Pierre Larin and niece Denise Larin (Montréal). He will be remembered by his dear cousin Colette Soulière (Kanata).
George was a WWII veteran and served in the Navy as a telegraphist on Corvettes in the Atlantic. He remained a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion. George worked as a machinist at John’s Mansville Mine in Matheson and retired at the McIntyre Mine.
We would like to thank the Dr Lyne Schwertfeger, his many nurses or visitors, as he called them, Joanne Boutin, his physiotherapist and many other staff members that helped him through this difficult time.
As per his wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family celebration of George’s life will take place at a later date.
Arrangements entrusted to LESSARD-STEPHENS FUNERAL HOME. Thoughts and condolences may be shared online with the family. If desired, donations can be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 88. www.lessardstephens.com
