Obituary for Rémi Boileau "The Very Best"

Rémi Boileau "The Very Best"

The family announces with deep sorrow the peaceful passsing of Rémi Boileau, on July 7, 2017 at the age of 76, following a courageous battle with cancer. Rémi leaves behind his wife of 51 years Denise Boileau (née Gauthier); his children Nicole Turgeon (Guy), Paul Boileau (Tammy) of Orléans and Guy Boileau of Mexico; his beloved grandchildren Justin, Isabelle, Joel and Janelle; his brothers and sisters Thérèse Burke (Greg), Marcel Boileau (Jaqueline), André Boileau (Thérèse) of Penetanguishene, Gérald Boileau (Huguette), Lucille Barrette (Fidèle), Fernand Boileau (Louise), Lorraine Garon (René); as well as members of the Gauthier family, numerous nieces and nephews, and friends. He joins his brother Yvon Boileau (late Carmen), both of whom formed a festive musical duo, as well as his parents Lucien Boileau and Marie-Rose Boileau (née Rivard), where music will undoubtedly continue to go on.
Born in Timmins on September 29, 1940, Rémi embodied, from a young age, the essence of enterpreneurship, leadership, and dedication to his community. Early in his career, he worked as a «bodyman» and as a manager of a National Grocers’ wharehouse. For approximately 14 years, he was co-owner of Goodyear Tires, the Truck Centre, as well as the Uniglobe Travel Agency. In 1991, he became the owner of Royal Studio for the following 13 years. Rémi also created a group of investors that led to the establishment of La Chaumière, a francophone restaurant located in the La Ronde Cultural Centre.
Rémi was committed to the development of the City of Timmins through his commitment to volunteering, his generosity and his active involvement in numerous committees, such as the Business Improvement Association (BIA) of Timmins, and the Timmins Economic Development Corporation. He was also the President of the Venture Centre, and Co-President of fundraising campaigns for the new Timmins Library.
Rémi firmlly believed in the rights of Franco-Ontarians as demonstrated by his contribution to many organizations, namely as President of the La Ronde Cultural Centre, as well as a member of “Bâtissons notre avenir”, and the Timmins committee responsible for celebrations marking the 400th anniversary of francophones in Ontario. He also represented francophones in the Timmins 2020 committees.
Beyond his unwavering commitment to his community, Rémi was, for many, a trusted friend and confidant. Passionate about politics and hockey, he thoroughly enjoyed engaging in debates and discussions. He will, however, remain for his family and close friends, a comforting and generous soul, with the most positive outlook on life, as exemplified by the expression he was commonly known for: « The Very Best ». Though his music will remain forever in our hearts, his piano playing will be dearly missed during family gatherings.
The family wishes to express its most heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Judy Gillis, the nurse practionner, Marnie Chisholm, as well as nurse Liz Feldman from the Bayshore for their professionalism, their constant support and their compassion.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the Lessard-Stephens
Funeral Home.
Funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at 10:30am at St-Joseph Church (567 Eyre Blvd). Interment will follow at Timmins Memorial Cemetery. A reception will follow in the basement of St-Joseph Parish.
Remembrance donations to the Timmins and District Hospital or to the St-Joseph Parish would be most appreciated. Online donations and condolences can be made at: www.lessardstephens.com
