Condolence: Teta Magde was the grandmother I never had. As my grandmother’s sister, I was interested in her stories of growing up in Prilisce, Croatia, love of family, singing in church, and farm life in the village. Teta Magde’s making of a new home in Schumacher with my Tetac Miko and cousin Ive was inspirational. Her life was fascinating. She had strength in character and spirit. Teta Magde had a great love of gardening, flowers, playing cards, and sharing a good laugh or joke. She enjoyed sitting at her kitchen table with company. I looked forward to summer vacations with her in Timmins, and sleepovers in Kitchener at our home and Vujac Albert’s. Teta Magde was comforted to know her grandson and great-grandsons will carry on the Skrtic name. I’m honored she got to know my husband and kids, and she knew that her family will continue in Canada, Croatia, Slovenia, Australia and Sweden. She will be sadly missed, and forever lovingly remembered.

Condolence: Teta Magde was my late husband Joze’s, Aunt. She sponsored him into Canada and graciously had us live with her, Tetac Miko and Ive when I first came to Schumacher. After our move to Kitchener, I have fond memories of all the family visits we had (though the distance was so far), and the countless telephone calls. Teta Magde was one of the strongest women I have ever known. In recent years I’m happy we spent so many hours on the phone sharing stories of our lives and family, and finding comfort in each other. Teta has left a void in my life and will be missed immeasurably.
