Obituary for Donald Davis

Peacefully and surrounded by his loving family, Donald Nicholson Davis, age 90, passed away on February 14th, 2018. Donald was born July 19,1927 to James and Edith Nicholson Davis in his beloved Quyon, Quebec. On November 30th 1947 he married Isabel McCaffrey and they shared 55 adventurous years together.

Donald is survived by his children Deborah, Jim (Cathy) and Mary (Rick). Papa Don was the most amazing grandfather to David Geris (Karen), Jennifer (Jason Leger), Donald (Christina), MacKenzie (Ashley) and Joshua (Karly). Papa also has 6 beautiful great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.

Donald was predeceased by his wife Isabel, his sons Douglas and Ricky (Krista), his grandson Brandon and siblings Jean Davis Poole, Ken (Erna) and Lorne (Claire).

Donald moved to Timmins in the early 50’s and began his career in the mines. He was a dedicated employee who through mine rescue training, worked diligently to ensure safe conditions for his coworkers and friends. Donald competed in many mine rescue completions, winning a couple along the way.

Donald was a faithful Toronto Maple Leafs supporter cheering his team on through the “tough times” and the “even tougher times”. Most of all he loved conversing with friends, having coffee and sharing his wisdom. Donald enthusiastically served individuals who required a helping hand.

The greatest lesson Donald was able to share was “acceptance is the answer to all our problems today”; this allowed him to live a life of joy and pure contentment.

The family would like extend a heartfelt thank you to the dedicated staff at ExtendIcare for the love, care and compassion they showed to Papa Don. Furthermore, we would like to thank the many people who visited Papa over the past years especially his chum Ghislain.

A visitation will be held from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Friday April 27th 2018 at Lessard-Stephens Funeral Home. A funeral service will be celebrated at St Anthony’s Cathedral at 11:00 am, Saturday April 28th 2018; with a reception to follow.
