Obituary for Anne Brillinger

Anne passed away peacefully on Friday February 2, 2018, at the Golden Manor in Timmins following a lengthy illness. She was 84.
Anne was predeceased by her parents (Stjepan Valentich and Angela Saftich of Schumacher), her oldest brother Frank (the victim of an accident at age 6), and an older brother, also named Frank, of Lindsay in 2010. Anne is survived by: daughter Barbara (Jamie Mortson) of Timmins; son Donald (Danny Pratt) of Toronto; granddaughters Kelsey Mortson (Paul Sobocinski) of Toronto; and Dana (Jay Michaud) along with great-granddaughter, Elodie, of Claremont. She leaves cherished nephew and niece, Jared and Marta and their children, and sister-in-law Margaret of Lindsay. Anne also leaves dear companion John Stephens, and lifelong friends Dollie Lillie, and Sophie Kelly.
Anne was born in Schumacher on September 23, 1933. She attended Schumacher Public School and graduated from the commercial program at Timmins High and Vocational School.
In 1952 she joined the staff of CKGB Radio (now KISS 99.3), working as secretary to the general manager. She hosted the weekly Swap Shop buy and sell radio program in the late 1960s and 1970s, played Operator in the annual Santa Claus phone-in show, emceed local fashion shows, and recorded scores of community announcements and advertisements for local businesses. She retired in 1988. Anne cherished her career where she enjoyed the camaraderie of a dynamic, unique, and humorous team. Her workdays brought her great joy and satisfaction. Anne’s other passions included music, dancing, enjoying relaxing times at the cottage with John, downhill skiing and golfing. For decades she was a member of the Kamiskotia Ski School, and she continued skiing and instructing until her late 70s.
Dear friends Sylvano, Lozanne, Rosemary, Reggie, Faith, Laurie and others helped to brighten her days when they called to visited with her at the Manor. She enjoyed the company of her fellow residents in E2, the ever so kind and caring PSW’s, and being entertained by the antics of her sidekicks Helen and Claire.
Anne’s family expresses its deep gratitude and thanks to the nurses and staff at the Golden Manor, to Mary Cochrane for her care and companionship during Anne’s 13 months at the Manor, and to Suzanne Hachez from the Alzheimer Society.
In keeping with her final wishes, Anne has been cremated and will be interred at Timmins Memorial Cemetery at a private family ceremony. In late spring, her family will plant a memorial tree for Anne in the Mattagami Region Conservation Authority parkland at Gillies Lake.
Remembrance donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Timmins-Porcupine District, the Golden Manor – Palliative Care Room, or to a charity of choice.
Arrangements have been entrusted with LESSARD-STEPHENS FUNERAL HOME.
