The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Elizabeth "Betty" Ethier can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Condolence: My fondest childhood memories of Horwood and Groundhog Lake include Auntie Bette (my Godmother) and how kind and fun she was. I admired her toughness and wilderness savvy. Who else would help a little girl have her picture taken shaking "hands" with an upright otter? (frozen in that position out of the trap but no one needed to know!) Although many years and miles have distanced me from that time in my life, I still talk about my Auntie Bette to friends, colleagues and patients whenever I need an example of a real outdoors-woman of extraordinary strength and independence even into her aging years. Pretty amazing lady. My heartfelt sympathies to the Ethier family and all those in mourning. I hope many more wonderful memories of Auntie Bette come forward for you to hold onto.

Condolence: David, Jane and families:
We are so sorry to hear of Betty's passing. She was a wonderful, bright and thoughtful person who lived a unique, full and natural lifestyle. Truly, a very long and special friendship developed through the years with our family and other Horwood Lake residents as well. We will always cherish the memories of our many annual visits to Aime and Betty at the dam and later after they retired to the Flying Post. We hope that Betty's stories and memoirs can be preserved for the benefit of all who knew and loved her. A full, long, healthy and independent life well lived! She will be missed.

Condolence: A truly unique and wonderful person we had the privilege to know when we came to Horwood Lake in 1972. Bette was the greatest outdoorswoman in the world and a truly beautiful, kind and generous soul. We were so lucky to have known her. We have nothing but good memories of shared times with this amazing lady. Our deepest condolences to David and Cindy and the rest of the family.
