At early dawn, on the morning of Good Friday, a Holy Day of the Christian faith, April 14, 2017, Pierina Carlesso, while at the Hospice Centre of the Timmins and District Hospital, left us to grieve her death and then joyously celebrate her long life of health and good fortune. She is survived by her son Silvano of Timmins, her sisters Antonia and Elda and their children all living in Treviso, Italy. Nieces and a nephew who reside in Canada. She was predeceased by her husband Ugo, 1975 whom she has now rejoined in spirit in accordance with her faith. She was predeceased by her parents, Zaffira, 1990 and Pietro, 1950 , her brother Guido, 1995. Pierina was a devoted parishioner of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish and a member of the Porcupine Dante Club, Il Centro Cultura Italiana. Anyone who knew Pierina, and understood her character and personality, would applaud her fierce and passionate determination to live the remaining years of her life independently in her residence, according to her terms, until she could no longer live alone, which was the afternoon of April 2, 2017, when she was brought to the hospital. She lived her life her way until the end, and for that, there is a merciful God who granted her that opportunity which was not squandered. At the hospital she met Dr. Julie Samson and the nursing staff for palliative care, Chrissy and Johnna, all three of whom enabled her to live out the remaining days with tranquility and comfort. To Lia Holmes and Lia Fontana, special thanks and gratitude as well. Shannon, she will never forget. The visitation will be held at LESSARD-STEPHENS Funeral Home on Easter Sunday – the Holiest of days in the Christian calendar, Sunday, April 16, 2017 between the hours of 1:30 and 4:30 pm. Pierina’s funeral will be held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, on Monday, April 17, 2017 at 10:30am with Father John Lemire presiding. Interment will follow at Timmins Memorial Cemetery. Instead of flowers, Pierina made it a point that we ask everyone to make a donation in her name directly to the Timmins and District Hospital Hospice Centre, for the purposes of the Hospice itself.
