It is with regret that I announce the peaceful death of Odette Lauretta Gauvin (née Noël) on August 2nd 2016 at Extendicare Kirkland Lake. She was in her 84th year. Odette has been reunited with her parents Joseph Albert Noël (Westville, New Hampshire) and Berthe Blais (St François de Montmagny, QC) and her husband Eloi (Ed) Jean Gauvin (Noranda, QC). Waiting for her are her brothers Lévi Noël (Roseanne Martineau), René Noël (Jacqueline Raby), Oscar Noël , and her sisters Rachelle Noël (Gaetano Spinotti), Bérangère Noël (Wilfrid Martineau), and Monique Noël (Pierre Lortie) and two Noël babies. Also waiting for her are her in-laws Ken McCagherty (Jeanne Gauvin), Noël Gauvin (Rose Desrochers), Joseph Larochelle (Ernestine Gauvin), Célestine Gauvin (Omer Spencer, living), Alphonsine Gauvin (Armand Desrochers), Simone Gauvin (Eugene Bandy), Germaine Gauvin (Léo Landry), Léonard Gauvin (Fernande Désalliers et Louise Gervais), Lucienne Gauvin (Paul Boutin), Laurienne Gauvin, Lilianne Gauvin (Théobald Trépanier, living), Céryce Gauvin (Jeanne D`Arc McFadden), Thérèse Gauvin (Lloyd Thomas), Raymond Gauvin (Anne-Marie Vincent) et 4 Gauvin babies. She leaves behind, her son, Pierre Gauvin and her brothers Pascal Noël (Maureen Stamiski) and Jacques Noël (Louise Laflamme), Patrice Noël and more than one hundred nephews and nieces. At a very young age, Odette and her eldest sister Rachelle left their village of St-Francois de Montmagny to take the train in Quebec city in order to start their teaching careers in Barraute, in Northern Quebec. The sisters lived in Rouyn many years and crossed Osisko Lake in the winter to work in Noranda. Odette also taught some time in northern Quebec, a town called Mattagami before finally moving on King Street, in Porcupine, when her husband Eloi (Ed) found a job at the new Texas Gulf Sulphur Co concentrator, in Hoyle. Living on Spruce street north, Odette taught a few years at Jacques Cartier. She finished her teaching career working short contracts with le Conseil des Écoles Séparées du District de Timmins until 1993. Odette loved learning, teaching, sharing, but by far her favourite activity was discussing, with anyone, at any time. Her ashes will be placed at the Notre-Dame Cemetery in Rouyn-Noranda.
