Obituary for
Dallas Wilson
It is with great sorrow the family of Dallas Wilson announces his death at Timmins and District Hospital at the age of 77. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, Dallas died on Wednesday, December 23.
Dallas was born in 1938 to Dallas and Lena Wilson, the eldest of three children and the only son. Admittedly not one to attend classes, he spent much of his time playing hockey, fastball and broomball, and even won a few provincial championships to prove his worth as an athlete. He and his two best friends left Timmins to play semi-professional hockey with the Amarillo Wranglers in Amarillo, Texas. A few years later he returned to Timmins and married Suzanne Dubien, with whom he would spend the next 54 years. In the years that followed, his work life would take him from Timmins to Toronto and back as an employee with Goodyear, Gulf Oil and Petro-Canada. During his “retirement” years he was the long-time bartender in the lounge at the Porcupine Dante Club. Dallas’ love for competition and sports continued throughout his life. He was an avid curler and dart player and joined many leagues, among them the Wednesday night bocce league with his good friends at the Dante Club. But above all other sports, golf was his passion. He played every day, rain or shine. He was a decades-long member of Spruce Needles Golf Course and served for many years on its executive ensuring the growth and development of the golf course and the sport in Timmins. Over the last few years he had the opportunity to spend time in the sun visiting his sister, Bonnie, in The Villages, Florida, and played a round of golf every day. He had an extremely rich social life, and was an active member of the Dante Club and Moneta Recreation Club for more than 50 years. He was also blessed to have many cherished friends that remained an important part of his life to the end, especially the Andrighetti, DiMarco and Ferrari families. Dallas is survived by his wife, Suzanne, and daughters Rosanne Foy (Rock), Elaine MacKenzie (Rory) and Lisa Wilson-Sargalis (Barry), all of Timmins. Although he did not have sons, he loved his sons-in-law like they were his own boys. He is also a cherished Papa to Matthew and Sara Foy, and Katie and Halle MacKenzie. Dallas is also survived by his sisters, Judy-Ann Sherlock (Alan) of Winnipeg and Bonnie Foster (John) of Timmins. He leaves behind many nephews and nieces from the Foster, Sherlock, Gutcher and Dubien families. Visitation will take place Sunday, December 27, 2015, from 1-3 p.m. at the Covenant United Church, corner of Eighth and Pine Street in Timmins. A celebration of his life will follow at 3:15 p.m. In lieu of flowers, remembrance donations to the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation / Emergency Department or Oncology Department would be greatly appreciated by the family.
