The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Elizabeth (Liz) O'Connor can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Obituary for Elizabeth (Liz) O'Connor (Demmick)

Elizabeth (Liz) O'Connor (Demmick)
Liz was born in the logging town of McInnis Siding near Cochrane Ontario to Herman and Eva Demmick on July 10, 1943. She was raised and lived in Timmins all her 70+ years. Liz was a graduate of St Mary’s School of Nursing and worked as a Registered Nurse at Porcupine General and St Mary’s General Hospital, remembered most for psychiatric nursing at MHU and the Mid-Step Out-patient program at the 101 Mall and TDH. She will be remembered as a loving wife to her husband of ~50 years, Ted; the caring mother of Ted Jr. (Saskatoon) and Erin Yeh (Toronto); mother-in-law of Laurie O’Connor (Polowy) and Rob Yeh. Her memory will live on in her four grandchildren Keegan and Declan O’Connor and Rosebella and Arianna Yeh – they were the pride of Liz’s life. Liz was very active in the community and was a volunteer at the Canadian Cancer Society and was part of numerous clubs and organizations over the years, including Beta Sigma Phi, Take Two Theatre. However, her greatest passion was her art and for the Porcupine Art Club, where she served most recently as its President. Her favourite saying was “live to paint or paint to live”. Liz truly embodied this saying and was known for her incredibly colourful acrylic paintings. Liz lost her latest battle with cancer and although strong in everything she did, fighting to end – the disease ultimately took her, peacefully on May 2nd at TDH. Liz will miss the smells of a long overdue spring this year, so friends and family are urged to take a deep breath and savour life. A celebration of Liz’s life will be held Wednesday May 7th from 1:00-4:00 PM at the LESSARD-STEPHENS RECEPTION CENTRE. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Timmins District Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by Liz and the family.
