Obituary for Allen Yee

It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Dr. Allen Yee, B.Sc., D.D.S., of Timmins, Ontario, our beloved son, brother and uncle. Allen passed away peacefully on January 17, 2010, at the Timmins and District Hospital, after a long battle with kidney disease and other medical complications. He leaves behind his parents, Mr. Shell Thead (Ken) Yee & Mrs. Kow Oi Yee; five siblings, Jean Yee-Millard (John Millard), Ruth Yee Dunn (Kevin Dunn), Bruce Yee (Nancy Reid Yee), Carsey Yee, and Alison Yee-Rivard (Phil Rivard); eight nephews and nieces, Matthew Yee, Ryan Dunn, Marc Millard, Kieran Yee, Cameron Dunn, Brianna Yee, Teagan Yee and Jordan Yee; as well as many friends and colleagues. Born in Saskatchewan in 1959, Allen moved to Timmins with his parents in 1960. He graduated from Timmins High & Vocational School in 1978 and went on to complete two degrees at the University of Toronto. After graduating from U of T dental school in 1987, Dr. Yee returned to northern Ontario to practice dentistry in under-serviced communities, including Cochrane, Matheson and Moosonee. In 1989, Allen and his father became co-owners of Dimple's Restaurant in downtown Timmins, a family business that they operated together until January 2006. Allen was a lifelong fan of hockey, especially the Montreal Canadiens, and he was very fond of children, especially his eight nephews and nieces. In addition, he developed a good rapport with aboriginal Canadians in remote communities and became an avid collector of native art. The Yee family would like to express our gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Timmins District Hospital for the personalized, professional care that Allen has received over the years. Thanks also to the doctors, nurses and staff at Sudbury Memorial who treated him this past fall. A memorial service will be held at the Lessard-Stephens Funeral Home in Timmins, Ontario, at 11am on Friday, January 22, 2009, with a visitation period for family and friends from 7pm to 9pm on Thursday, January 21, 2009. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Timmins District Hospital Foundation in memory of Dr. Allen Yee. The proceeds will be used to purchase a piece of equipment for the TDH dialysis unit where Allen received high quality care for more than seven years.
